DC bill is designed to decriminalize prostitution involving consenting grownups

D.C. may become the very first U.S. town to decriminalize prostitution involving consenting grownups.

Councilmember David Grosso introduced a bill making it take place in 2017, however it passed away in committee.

He will reintroduce the bill Tuesday in a form that is slightly different this time with three co-sponsors rather than one.

“It is long overdue for D.C. to reconsider the framework by which we handle commercial intercourse, and go from 1 of criminalization to a different approach that centers on human being liberties, health insurance and safety,” Grosso said throughout a news seminar.

He had been surrounded by a few individuals signs that are holding. One read, “Everyone Deserves to Feel Safe inside their Work,” while another stated, “Sex Workers Matter”.

“The bill … doesn’t alter some of our regulations regarding coercion or exploitation, that may continue being forbidden when you look at the District of Columbia. In fact, it will not alter exactly exactly how criminal penalties are used to fight sex trafficking of minors,” Grosso stated. (more…)
