What to Put in Your Pet’s First-Aid Kit
What better way to face an emergency situation with your pet than by being prepared? Assembling a first-aid kit is one of the best ways to do this. Learn more here from a North Phoenix, AZ veterinarian.
Basic Medical Supplies
Of course, your kit will need basic medical supplies like gauze, adhesive tape, hydrogen peroxide, cotton balls, tweezers, scissors, a pet-specific thermometer, antiseptic wipes, etc. Also pack a pair of latex gloves to protect your hands. Consult with your vet to find out what else to include.
It’s a good idea to pack some of your pet’s paperwork in a waterproof bag. Include proof of vaccinations and copies of your pet’s medical records. You may also want to write down your vet’s phone number, poison control hotline numbers, and the number of and directions to the nearest emergency clinic, as this information can be life-saving in an emergency situation.
Other items that you may want to add are a leash, muzzle, nail clippers, a flashlight, styptic powder or pens, pet sunscreen, and any medications your pet takes.
This isn’t an exhaustive list of first-aid essentials for pets. For more advice, contact your vet North Phoneix, AZ office.
