Myths About Cats
There sure are a lot of myths surrounding our feline friends—not everything you’ve heard is true! Below, your Omaha, NE veterinarian dispels some of the most common misconceptions about our four-legged companions.
Cats Always Land on Their Feet
This isn’t true—cats can land awkwardly after a fall just like anyone else, potentially injuring themselves quite seriously. In fact, shorter falls are the most dangerous because a cat might not have time to right themselves before impact. To be safe, don’t let your cat climb around open windows or on slippery surfaces.
Cats Love Milk
While a cat might happily drink milk, it will not love them in return. Too much milk will almost certainly cause an upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea—that’s because most adult cats are actually lactose-intolerant!
Cats Purr When Happy
This is a half-truth. Cats can purr when happy and contended, yes. However, many experts believe that purring may indicate other emotions, some of them negative. Cats might even purr to express anxiety or fear!
