Bathing a Kitten

If you bathe your kitten early on in life, she’ll be used to the sensation if she needs bathing at a later time. Here, a Myrtle Beach veterinarian tells you how to get started.

Wet the Feet

Begin by simply standing your kitten up in about an inch of lukewarm water, just getting the paws wet. Use treats to entice your kitten, and try again later if your pet becomes extremely agitated.

Wet the Body

Once your kitten is comfortable standing in the water, gently pour lukewarm water over her body, taking care to avoid the face. If necessary, dry your kitten off after this step and repeat the process several times so your kitten gets used to having water poured over her.

Shampoo and Rinse

Now you’re ready to bathe your kitten. Use a feline-formulated shampoo and massage it gently through the coat. Again, take care to avoid the face. Once shampooing is complete, rinse your kitten’s coat thoroughly with water. Dry her off with a towel and offer a treat for a job well done!
